Surprise, Arizona has suggested that it may institute a bed-tax increase that could raise funds that would be used to increase tourism in the area.
The new bed-tax rate hike would go up from 10.47 percent to 11.99 percent. This amount would still keep their tax less than most other neighboring cities. Those staying at Surprise hotels would pay an additional $1.52 for every $100 spent.
Talks about the increase have been ongoing for about six months and is supported by the Surprise Hotel Association, which firmly believes the city should fund special events to bring additional tourist and revenue to Surprise. If successful, other businesses would likely benefit as well.

The summer of 2010 will be remembered as the day 3 day weekends began for Surprise Arizona city employees. What was a test pilot program is now being rolled out as a four day work schedule.
