The credit for developing the area now known as Chandler is given to Dr. Alexander John Chandler, who bought 80 acres from the government in 1891. He is also credited for developing canals for irrigation that helped turn the desert into a place where crops, such as cotton, could be grown and people could live. Dr. Chandler passed away in 1950.
